Game : Metal Gear Rising Revengeance

Released on December 31, 2012

Game Features

Platform: PLAYSTATION 3, Xbox 360

  • Rising's stealth elements will emphasize Raiden's considerable speed and agility through what Matsuyama describes as "hunting stealth."
  • Gameplay will focus on two key elements: swordfighting, and a style of stealth that is more fast-paced and action-oriented.
  • "Cutting" entails sophisticated swordplay that lets players engage in third person melee combat, as well as precisely slash enemies and objects "at will" along a geometrical plane using a "free slicing" mode.
Players assume control of Raiden, protagonist of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and supporting character in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. A key gameplay feature for the game is titled zan-datsu, which involves "cutting" through enemies and "taking" parts from the bodies of dismembered cyborgs and robots. Rising's stealth elements will emphasize Raiden's considerable speed and agility through what Matsuyama describes as "hunting stealth." Unlike the "waiting stealth" of previous titles, in which players remained hidden and avoided combat, players in Rising will instead quickly stalk their enemies and use acrobatic maneuvers to stay out of sight while closing in. This ties in with the game's zan-datsu feature, allowing them to prey upon enemies to obtain weapons, items, and energy.

Sorcery is a single player action role-playing game (RPG) for PlayStation 3 that utilizes Sony's PlayStation Move control system to create a dungeon crawling adventure like none before it. With the extreme motion controlled sensitivity of the PlayStation Move motion controller and PlayStation Eye camera peripheral accessory combination* players enter, interact with and explore a world where their growing expertise with spells and potions will be the difference between the salvation of the world and its domination. Features include a one-to-one relation between player movements to character actions, strategic spell use, transformative potions and additional support of the PlayStation Move navigation controller.

Gameplay

The third-person oriented Action RPG gameplay of Sorcery utilizes the PlayStation Move motion controller/PlayStation Eye camera peripheral, as well as supports the optional PlayStation Move navigational controller for ease of movement. The Move motion controller serves in-game as the player's wand. As players tackle the host of enemies, large and small, as well as spatial challenges throughout the game levels they will use their wand to access and apply spells and potions collected, earned or purchased in-game. Spells and potions are easily accessed through the Motion controller's traditional PlayStation button array, and are unleashed with a simple flick of the wrist. The sensitivity of the Move motion controller allows for both trajectory of the spell, as well intensity of impact. Spells range from blunt force, ice and fire based varieties, to those allowing for the explosive charging of areas, the creation of a whirlwind that will sweep up enemies and a mend spell that is used to repair destroyed areas. Spells can also be used in conjunction with each other to best particularly difficult enemies and situations. Balancing this ability are potions, which allow for temporary abilities and even physical transformation of the hero in order to reach areas otherwise inaccessible. Together these hardware and gameplay features create a one-to-one gameplay experience and total sense of immersion unlike anything RPG players have yet seen.

Product Features

Release : 31 December 2012

Platform: PLAYSTATION 3, Xbox 360, PC/Mac
  • BioShock Infinite is not a direct sequel or prequel to previous BioShock games, taking place in an earlier period and different setting, though it features similar gameplay concepts and themes.
  • BioShock Infinite is a first person shooter with role-playing game elements

The third game in the popular Bioshock series, BioShock: Infinite breaks away from the underwater setting of the first two games to take players into a floating city held aloft by dirigibles. The game is set in 1912. You play as Booker DeWitt, a disgraced former private detective who's picked up a new case. Your goal is to find Elizabeth, a young woman who's gone missing and return her unharmed. The only problem is that she's being kept on this flying city. Columbia was once a symbol of America's success as a nation, floating around the world as a traveling World's Fair, a marvel of human innovation. But strange things have happened since Columbia's unveiling in 1900, and now the city has disappeared into the clouds.

User Review:
Pro:
- The game is looking great graphically. They've nailed the stadiums (and indeed, a lot of the intros), the menus are sharp and easy to read, and overall it's more polished then other PS3 Maddens.
- GameFlow returns but for someone like me who has played with the Steelers for many years, and knows their best plays, it's nice the conventional option was left. I was up and running in no time even though it had been many months since I played Madden.
- The online community/matchmaking process has been significantly improved and the trolls/cheaters that have plagued this game online for years is likely to be all but eliminated, so kudos for EA for finally getting this fixed.

Now, the not-so-good:
- I read a lot of reviews before purchasing this game, and let me tell you that they nailed one thing: The announcing is HORRIBLE in this game. A few examples:
*I'm up 35-0 and they go "The Ravens better do something on this drive because if they don't, man it's going to be a long day". You think?
*TWO times I know i heard Gus Johnson refer to my offense as the DEFENSE...how in the WORLD does that get in a final product?
Cons:
- While the graphics are good, the actual game performance leaves somethings to be desired. Clipping is rampant (not the football penalty), a couple times in my first game the crowd (cardboard and pixelated as it was) got in front of the players on a cutscene, they play the SAME cutscenes after a guy scores a TD, I mean I could go on and on but this stuff should be fixed by the 2012 game now.

- The difficulty has some seriously wild swings that are either way too easy or ludiciously difficult. Is it too much to ask to have a nice middle ground?

- This might be the easiest set of sport game trophies to earn on the PS3. I got SIX of them in my very first game! And the only ones I see that are majorly difficult are the ones that require 100 yard returns for TD's. Past games have had a lot more specific challenges and they had to be played in All Pro...these can be earned on any difficulty level.

- It was tremendously easy in Madden 2005 to manage your Franchise (players, etc.) but this interface is way too clunky for its own good, even with all the details they added. Sometimes simple presentation is MUCH better.

- Why Madden went away from what they had in 2010 (i.e. the halftime show, etc.) is beyond me. The lame excuse they have in its place (a couple random highlights) is a joke. Oh, and I guess Gus Johnson couldn't be bothered to say the teams NAMES when he says what the score is at the end of every quarter! I have NEVER seen that in all the years I've played Madden.

And in the end, EA doesn't care. They know there will be a significant part of the population that will pick it up just because it's the next game in the series. Games like NHL 11 (and upcoming 12) have advanced and are now far superior to the NFL product, but of course Madden's going to sell like hotcakes so they don't care.

So, if you're someone that likes the updated rosters, and can appreciate the few improvements they put in, go ahead and buy it again. Just know what you'er getting. I don't see this game drawing any new players into Madden who haven't played it before, and Madden's got a long road to climb back that we probably won't see until the PS4/next Xbox generation.

User Review:
Brief evaluation:

+ Bluetooth device, does not require dongles or wires
+ Replaces a full-size keyboard, well suited for entering passwords or brief messages
+ Perfectly integrated, physically and functionally with the PS3 controller - generally, it does not interfere with game play
+ Rechargeable battery
+ According to Sony (not tested by me) it can be paired with other Bluetooth devices (don't lose that manual)

Cons:
- Adds weight to the controller
- Some of the special keys are placed at unfamiliar locations
- Keys 'real estate' wasted by assigning 2 keys to jump to the message box and the friends list
- Touch pad does not work very well
- Small hands may find it a bit uncomfortable

Players who possess exceptional vision, for example, will see opportunities for through balls that other players won't. Real Madrid's Kaká will be more likely to pick out a run from a teammate farther away than a player with poorer vision. Additionally, teams will vary their attack based on the strengths of their players on the pitch, and the weaknesses of opposing players, creating a more authentic experience and greater variety of matches.
  • Tactical Defending - Redesigned defending mechanism fundamentally changes the approach to defending by placing equal importance on positioning, intercepting passes and tackling at the right moment. Tactics and timing are crucial.
  • True Injuries - The Player Impact Engine monitors contact between players in real-time, analyzing the force of the collision and impact on the body to detect real injuries, creating a deeper more challenging Career Mode. Manage new types of injuries and the risk of sending a player onto the pitch who isn't fully healed.
  • Player Impact Engine - Two years in development, the new physics engine is built to deliver real-world physicality in every interaction on the pitch. Experience an infinite variety of natural and believable outcomes in every contact. Players feel more resilient on the ball, push and pull during the fight for possession, and recover from light challenges more easily, preserving their natural momentum.
  • Precision Dribbling - Enjoy new ways to take on opponents, more time on the ball to make decisions, and complete control of the pace of the game. Utilize close dribble touches in tight spaces, on the wings, and even while fending off an opponent.

  • New Commentary Teams - For the first time ever, two broadcast teams will be featured - Martin Tyler and Alan Smith and Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend. Fans can customize audio to their preferred commentators for any matches.
User Review:
This is a fantastic game but I have to give it 4 stars because I think the way EA marketed this game, i.e. as if they completely revolutionized the FIFA franchise , is a tad misleading. Maybe it's just me but I found the whole 'impact system' that this release is centered around to be very over rated and , when I did experience it during games, to be pretty glitchy (more on that later).

Positives:

1) Let's start with my favorite part about this game - I feel that FIFA 12 really introduces a whole new level of realism into the franchise in that it really does seem to be a game that will require players to think differently in each match as the improved ball physics makes every shot move different ,even if hit from the same spot using the same power. One of my biggest peeves in FIFA 11 was playing against the hardcore FIFA players who mastered the game to the point where they knew where to shoot from, how much power to use - strategies which almost always resulted in a goal. I think 12 has gone some way to addressing the scenario of players being able to beat the game engine which will be a relief for casual players such as myself. Bear in mind , I think i felt similarly about FIFA 11 too so if i find myself once again getting scored on from the same spots, I'l edit this portion of the review.

2) Improved player AI - Absolutely fantastic. After playing about 10 games against the computer, I could really feel the difference. In fact, the only reason playing against the computer didn't seem as fun as playing online was because i knew I was playing against the computer. The scores were always vastly different i.e. 6-0 in 1 game , 1-2 in another and the AI's decision making ability ,even at the semi-pro level I am currently playing at is extremely smart. Case in point - I rushed my keeper on the AI player and the player actually chipped the ball above the keeper. Maybe it's just me but I never saw the computer do that in FIFA 11 even at the 'legendary' difficulty level.

3) Defending - Ok I admit it - I was one of those whose defense strategy in 11 was to simply rush onto the opposition with the X button pressed. I tried the same strategy in 'amateur' difficulty in FIFA 12 and almost lost the game. In short, defending in Fifa 12 is much more about anticipation and interception than it is about tough tackling - just as is the case in the real sport.

4) Dribbling: Just like the improved bal physics make it difficult for the very good players to master scoring positions , shooting power etc. , the improved dribbling makes it very difficult for amateur players to just come in and steal the ball by just running into the player with the x button pressed when a player is pulling of a skill.

5) Commentary - Having 2 separate commentary teams certainly goes a long way towards not hearing the same thing again and again.

6) Graphics - Player faces have been enhanced to give a more real life look as compared to the glossy look players had in Fifa 11.

7) Other: As with recent FIFA releases, you really have to keep playing Fifa 12 to really see all the new subtle tweaks in the game that really add up to making a big difference and hence i will continue to update this section as and when i notice something really cool. Here are some I have noticed

a) Injuries: I actually had a player get injured mid run and just go down, possibly because I had maxed out his stamina and was still exerting him

b) Game customization: You actually have the ability to increase/ reduce several attributes of both you as well as the computer (on a scale of 100) such as shot speed, acceleration, pass speed, injury frequency, injury severity, goalkeeper ability etc. - kinda helps if you want to make the game even more easier/challenging in addition to the difficulty setting you selected.
How much of a difference does that make? I set my team's sprint speed and acceleration to 100 and that of the computer to 0; in the previous game where all attributes were equal, I won 2-1 but with the edited settings, i won 35-0 , both at the exact same difficulty level.

Neutral:

Revamped Start Menu - Is cool but not a big deal for me. it's just one of those things that gives you that 'oh yes this is a new game' feeling for the first couple of times but after that, you just feel indifferent towards it. Personally , I don't think it improves or decreases the user experience but yes it does look a bit better.

Negatives:

1) Player impact engine: The primary reason that I consider this to be a negative is that i hardly ever see it come into effect in the game and when there is impact between players, the results are either over exaggerated or glitchy. 2 examples - The first was when I launched a sliding tackle straight through a player in the penalty box and it just made the player slightly imbalanced when he really should have gone down - no complaints from me as I avoided conceding a penalty but it will make it frustrating if i'm on the receiving end of one. The second was just plain ridiculous - I literally just walked into a defender but my player went somersaulting a few meters as if the defender had grabbed his leg and flung him full force. If it were Busquets or Alves who went flying, then i would commend the extreme realism in the game in that it really took player personality to a whole new level but it wasn't a player known for being a notorious diver.

Perhaps I may change my mind about the impact engine but , as it stands, I am disappointed in this feature as this was marketed as some sort of revolutionary change in the game but I could hardly ever experience it and when I did , the results were disappointing. I assume EA will release a patch to address these glitches after which I will edit my review but personally, the inability of this feature to meet my expectations is the primary reason why I took off 1 star.

2) Sluggishness - At least a couple of times, the navigation took at least 2 seconds to respond after i pressed a button on the remote. Eg - I pressed 'down' to navigate from 'Team management' to 'tactics' but it took a little while for the selection arrow to move down. Not a deal breaker but it will be very frustrating if it continues.

3) Player attributes don't change when you change the player's position - Not sure why EA did away with this one as i found this to be extremely helpful. Yeah everyone knows that you can't player Vidic as a striker but ,especially in the case of players whose preferred positions you may not be familiar with, it's just a bummer that their attributes don't change if you switch a specialist defender into a striker role and vice versa.

Verdict:

If it weren't for the glitches and the fact that i found the impact engine to be grossly over rated, Fifa 12 would be a 5 star game. The game has a more solid , realistic feel about it and the tweaks benefit both advanced players as well as the casual players such as myself. Advanced players will find it much more difficult to master positions from which they will almost always be able to score, but ,in return , they will find it a lot easier to hold on the ball because of how much EA has tweaked the defending and the dribbling in the game. The less advanced players will benefit from not being frustrated to always see players score from those certain spots but will be forced to try to get better at the game because 'brain dead' defending is no longer an option.

Is the game worth 60 bucks? I don't think so but , as is always the case, the fact that most online players will ditch Fifa 11 and the latest rosters will end up leaving you with little choice (assuming you mainly buy the game to play online). I bought the game when Amazon was offering a 20$ credit and am trading in my copy of Fifa 11 for 15 bucks so, for 25 bucks, this game is a steal.

I haven't tested the Career feature yet and have never played 'be a pro' so i can't comment on that but this is indeed a very solid football game and , money aside, will certainly provide a very satisfying experience. It's the best Fifa to date and I look forward to playing it for the next 12 months.

User Review:
First and foremost, I do not recommend getting this game (especially for the PS3) as there are too many problems. I do not want anyone feeling cheated as many have felt; therefore, I cannot recommend this game despite it being a great game. The game has too many broken quests, too many glitches, too many game freezes, too many concurrency issues, and too many other problems to be enjoyable. The game suffers from gameplay-crippling lag once the save file gets pretty large. Recently, a patch was released to address this; however, it didn't help that much--they only bandaged up the issue, not fixing the core problem. In fact, it has caused more frequent freezes and has caused certain game dynamics not to work properly. According to a recent interview with the Fallout: New Vegas developer, Joshua E. Sawyer, the lag issue is caused by the game engine's incompatibility with the PS3's divided memory pool, where 256MB is used for system resources and the other 256MB is reserved for game resources. This is not the PS3's fault at all... it is the poor implementation of the game engine. The game engine was designed for shared memory pools--that is why this problem does not exist on the Xbox 360, because it has 512 MB shared memory. In my opinion, Bethesda poorly implemented the engine to work on the PS3 and did not do much to optimize it--it's a lazy implementation practice. The game would run just as nice as the Xbox 360 version, and perhaps better, if only they would have taken their time to optimize the game engine for the PS3. Because this is an implementation issue, it will MOST LIKELY NOT BE FIXED. It was a problem for Fallout 3, Fallout NV, and now Skyrim. It hasn't been fixed in previous games, so why would it be fixed in Skyrim? I'm pretty sure Bethesda acknowledges this, but chooses not to even touch the engine on the PS3, as it will require a lot of time and resources.

 User Review:
Graphics 5/5 - As always, fantastic! They have managed to improve on the sequel. While the game still looks the same overall it is the details that ND continues to add that makes each game an improvement over the previous one. This entry specifically seems to push the already present cinematic feel - as evidenced brilliantly by its opening scene and chapter as well as numerous times during the game in cutscenes and gameplay.
Gameplay 4.5/5 - Drake's Deception has everything you loved about the first two games, only more finessed and perfected. Enemies are now slightly smarter and diverge on your position quicker (though in some ways I'd argue this makes them easier to take down, no more pin downs). The weapons system has been updated and tweaked (anyone who played the beta knows aiming is more particular, but you quickly adapt). Drake now grabs weapons automatically when out of ammo, another nice added detail.
The story 5/5 - I won't give anything away but well crafted stories are a key reason for the popularity of this franchise, this entry doesn't disappoint in that regard. The actors perform great as always, so many nuances brought to the characters. This game takes the world of the previous games and expands on it. If the second game was a continuation of the story from the first then this game is an opening up of the characters, their world and the story being told.
Conclusion > Game of the year? You better believe it. Certainly if you are new to PS3 or debating the commitment this game makes it well worth it. You don't have to have played the first two for this to be enjoyable (though I suggest both based on their own merits and to make this story even more enjoyable). While some game studios dream in the recesses of their mind only to wake and find it vanity, Naughty Dog are dreamers of the day. They act their dreams with open eyes to make it possible, and in making Drake's Deception, this they did.

User Review:
To simply put it, this game is way beyond awesome!

This game is very easy to pick up and play even for the most casual of gamers. I like that in a game. Don't get me wrong, I certainly love a challenge, and Batman: Arkham City is definitely a challenging game, but it's not a frustrating kind of challenging. It's more of a "hmm, okay, well, that didn't work, and a I died, so what else should I try?" kind of challenge. I love that about this game. It really forces you to learn from the mistakes that you make and think about what you're doing.

The graphics in this game are just superb. The environments are imaginative, and so beautifully rendered as are the character models. While the thug character models that you'll find scattered throughout the game do get repetitive, the actual environments do not. Buildings vary in size, shape, and look, lending to the authenticity of looking like a real city. The main bad guys are just as stunning as the Caped Crusader himself. The animations as you swing through Arkham City, run through buildings, and in combat are incredibly fluid. I've had no problems whatsoever with either laggy movements, or the camera getting stuck in an awkward position.

The voice acting and sound is just as top notch as the graphics. None of the lines seemed forced, nor are they some cheesy lines thrown in there just for the sake of speaking. Each line spoken by any of the characters found throughout the game serves a purpose to advance the story and isn't just some throwaway line. The music in the background is soft and very appropriate for setting the tone of the game. Environmental sounds, such as a batarang clinking off some metal, are also well done.

In terms of controls, yes, it is true that you only have to hit one button to strike opponents. However, if you want more of a challenge, try using the directional buttons too to select weapons such as your batarangs in the middle of combat to help take down enemies. Also, your takedowns aren't one button, and cape stun is a completely separate button from the strike button. Really, I've seen some complaining that this is a button masher since you only press one button to strike, but, if you get creative, this is no button masher. The controls in this game are also very responsive. I've played some game before where there appears to be a slight delay in the reaction of the on-screen character following a button press, or the character just doesn't do what you want, despite pressing the appropriate button. This does not occur in Batman: Arkham City. If you want to punch someone, you will, and you will do it just as soon as you press the button.

There have been complaints from some people that you play too much as Catwoman. I really don't think that is the case at all. Honestly, I was hoping to play as Catwoman even more than what was allotted. Seriously, don't let those saying there's a ton of Catwoman play deter you from buying this game. You really only play as Catwoman for maybe like 1 or 2% of the game if that. 98-99% of the time, you're Batman. And, if you don't like Catwoman, don't use the DLC code, and avoid the little bit of gameplay with her entirely. It doesn't affect the story at all.

All in all, I love this game. It is probably as close to a perfect game as you're ever going to find.

User Reviews:
I have to say I was a COD type of player. My friends would talk to me about BFBC2 and I would say "That game looks boring, where is the action?" But got to admit, I got tired of COD, same old gun and run. I wanted something more complex.
I played the BF3 beta, and damn after getting in the Metro Station, from the Operation Metro Map, and hearing the bullets, the RPG's on the edge of getting you, and the explosion all around, I got hooked up. It is so realistic, having "TurtleBeaches" or so, really helps a lot. It is intense, full of action, and really fun.
For all those people saying "I get killed really fast, they are all just camping, I can't even get close to the objective, I get lost on the map 'cause is too big" Well, don't run like a noob in the middle of the street! take the long way around, be sneaky get behind them and kill them, and most important of all press the SELECT button when you see an enemy to "spot" it, as this is a team based game, your friends will see them when you "spot" the enemy. When spawning get into a vehicle, better if it is a Tank or an Amphibian, with them you can get close to the objective and kill lots of enemies, it is better if you are an engineer as you will be able to "fix" it when damaged.
I can't deny there are some issues such as: Voice chat being choppy, bugs here and there, but no game is complete when it first comes out. I think it will just get better after some patches, don't listen to the trolls, and just give it a try. Hope you find out how good this game is. CHEERS!

Game : Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

User Review:
First off, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is excellent for people who want a complete, fun multiplayer experience. The number of players is huge, and the variety of maps, guns, and gametypes really increases the value of this game. There is one problem though- lag. I have a pretty fast internet connection at my house, but sometimes the game seems to lag. What I mean is, if you are walking around a corner, see an enemy, and shoot, sometimes your shots may not even touch the other player before you get killed. When viewing the killcam, sometimes your bullets don't even come out of your gun. This has occurred multiple times for me, and it is really frustrating when lag occurs.

Don't get me wrong though, MW3 is still a very compelling and exciting game. With constant updates and map packs, the game will always have something new, so that it does not get boring after a while.
